Windows 11 has been on the market for over a year and has recently received its first major update with version 22H2. Innovations continue in the operating system that has gained a new design with the new generation. With the new update, the Photos app has also undergone a significant change.
Photos app has a brand new look
Microsoft released a major update for the Photos app that completely changes the gallery view, adds some new features, and removes some old ones. It is possible to check for this update through the Microsoft Store, even though it has not yet reached all computers.
The new Photos app brings a completely redesigned gallery view and improved navigation. The main stage of the app continues to display the latest photos, but there is now a section on the left side of the screen with different folders.
In the new navigation section, the app aims to make files easier to find. In this section, there are tabs for photos on the device, as well as OneDrive, iCloud, and frequently used photos. At the bottom of this section, there is also information about how much storage space is left on OneDrive.
Gallery View changes
As the gallery view has completely changed, we now see that photos are no longer separated by dates. However, as you scroll through the screen, the date when the photos were added is indicated in the window above. Additionally, with the new ‘River’ option, photos are previewed according to their original aspect ratio. There is also a new filter feature in the app to view only photos and videos.
With the update, the ways of interacting within the app have also changed. Now, you need to double-click to view a photo. On the other hand, a single click selects the photo. Once the photo is selected, changes can be made from the menu that appears in the top right corner.
Video Editor: No more
Photo viewing will now be quite different from previous versions. When you double-click on a photo, a new tab opens, and the selected photo appears in a large format. Various options for editing the selected photo are located at the top of the opened window. In the lower part of the photo, you see your gallery in small squares.
On the other hand, we see that there is no longer a video editor in the new Photos app. This is because the Clipchamp app is now being offered on Windows 11. Clipchamp appears as an advanced program with more editing options and more complex features compared to the Photos app.
The settings page in the new Photos app has also been significantly revamped and simplified. The app offers many new options, including themes, permissions when deleting a file, and more. In addition, you can not only disable access to OneDrive or iCloud but also completely remove these options from the sidebar.
